Damned Blessed

Goyo Montero's (Madrid, 1975) "Benditos malditos" successful premiere, his personal tribute to poets, singer-songwriters and composers who created the sound track of his life, was staged at Centro Cultural de la Villa. Two performances of sixty five minutes support the recently appointed director of Nuremberg Ballet ability on choreographying. Montero's new choreography is built on his former works ("Alrededor no hay nada", "Desde Otello" or "Come again") and based in the contrast between voices like those of Joaquín Sabina, Vinicius Moraes or Joan Manuel Serrat and Monteverdi or Giuseppe Verdi.

The choreographer from Madrid also combine in an intelligent way choral movements performed by pupils from Real Conservatorio de Danza Mariemma, with solos or duets danced by his guest artists. Their great technique enrich the performance and allow the audience to understand easily contemporary dance. Iván Gil-Ortega (Principal Het National Ballet), Jon Vallejo and Raquel Martínez (Soloists Dresden Ballet Opera), represent outstandingly the Spanish dancers catalogue working abroad.

His current challenge is the direction of Nuremberg Ballet. At the same time, his work in Spain is quite interesting: "La bella durmiente", performed by the Teatres de la Generalitat Valenciana Ballet, or "Alrededor no hay nada", danced by pupils of the Real Conservatorio de Madrid.

This achievements and the successful premiere of "Benditos malditos", support Montero's condition as a top range choreographer. His new work is a circular structured puzzle formed by already known ballet pieces and variations full of novelties. It starts and ends with the Conservatory pupils on stage, whose splendid choral work prove their neverending and disciplined rehearsal sessions. Solos and duets are linked to their work. Jon Vallejo's energetic performance of "Come again" won the first ovation of the night. Iván Gil-Ortega's outstanding elegance, Raquel Martínez's dramatic intensity and Goyo Montero's energy made the day.

The audience ovationed "Benditos malditos" debut for five minutes, dancers bowed countless times. Nobody wanted to leave Centro Cultural de la Villa. Everyone was delighted, and everywhere How deligthful!, How well danced! was heard.

Congratulations then to Goyo Montero for his new show, to the dancers for their succes, and to the audience for having chosen this programme. God bless them.
